You will notice most manga don't actually use 'cartoony' fonts. Edit: I forgot to mention that you should pair up the Japanese and the English fonts with similar styles. Serif with Serif, Sans Serif with Sans Serif. For example, if you're using serif for english text, then Kozuka Mincho Pro. The standard main font: Wildwords, font size generally between 12-13px. Thoughts/narration: Manga Temple, ditto on the font size. For small-text: Most of our editors use Augie, but you may choose any font that's easy to read. Comments/Notations: Felt is good for this, since it's easy to make out at a small size. Jun 17, 2014.
Offline Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 104 | They seem to be using the same fonts for their fansubs for example their new releases: Mahouka: http://oi57.tinypic.com/2w4fp7k.jpg Black Bullet: http://oi60.tinypic.com/1425s7m.jpg Brynhildr in the Darkness: http://oi62.tinypic.com/25z1gkm.jpg Though occasionally they use different fonts like the one in Akuma no Riddle: http://oi61.tinypic.com/2cr9dm0.jpg Can anyone please help me identify what fonts these are? Thank you. Not sure if I was able to embed the images correctly so maybe I'll just post the direct links below them. Modified by AnimeMangaGamer-, May 8, 2014 2:17 PM |

Offline Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 3181 | They don't use CR's same font; CR uses Trebuchet MS (a font that only became 'bad' in the view of certain fansubbers when CR started using it) for everything. Protip for figuring out which fonts are used: obtain Mkvtoolnix and mkvextract (or mkvcleaver) and extract the subs from softsubbed .mkv files. If you open the .ass files with Aegisub, you can see which font was used for the Main/Default/whatever style. Of course, in the pre-xy-vsfilter days, it was possible to check/change the styles in MPC itself without going through extra steps with additional programs. |
