I found no autopilot on the instrument panel even though IRIS's manual describes an autopilot. A popup window has four autopilot options: Master On/Off, Altitude Hold, Heading Hold, and NavAid Hold. This autopilot works. It holds a current altitude but does not climb or descend to a preselected altitude.

Grob G115 Power System

IRIS's Grob G115 uses a Lycoming AEIO O-360 361-cubic-inch, four-cylinder, air cooled, direct drive, fuel-injected engine that produces 180 horsepower at 2,700 RPM. This engine is similar to the Lycoming IO-360 used in the stock Cessna 172 Skyhawk in FSX with fuel injection being the most significant difference.

IRIS's Flight Manual says the propeller is a Hoffman HO-V343 KV/V183 GY three-blade, composite, hydraulic operation, constant speed, variable pitch. Grob used various propellers on its G115 models including the three-blade Hoffman propeller on its E model that IRIS simulates. IRIS's D Heron model has a two-blade propeller that is not mentioned in IRIS's documents. It sports the Hoffman logo, so it is probably Hoffman's HO-V352 constant-speed propeller.

Fuel System

IRIS's Flight Manual says the Grob G115 engine uses Avgas 100/100LL aviation fuel. Each wing tank holds 75 liters (20 USG), and the collector tank holds 5.4 liters (1 USG). The total usable fuel is 143 liters (38 USG). The fuel-selector switch in the center console operates with the mouse wheel, not with the usual mouse clicks.

IRIS says this manual 'is compiled from data available from operating, technical, manufacturing and safety sources, and represents the best level of information available.' It features clearly written English supplemented with numerous screen-captured images and other details.
  • Pilot's Checklist: This 22-page document provides detailed procedures for all flight operations from preflight inspection through 'Before Leaving Aircraft' after shutdown.
  • Simulation Systems Setup Manual: This six-page document references IRIS's Texan Driver, but its settings recommendations presumably apply to the Grob G115E as well.
  • Software Support Guide: IRIS says this 14-page document 'is intended to assist you in collating certain information essential to us providing quality and efficient support for your product.' It explains how to find the product and software versions and the computer performance data.
  • Pilots TACAN Conversion Charts: This three-page document presents a table of VOR frequencies in numerical order and their corresponding TACAN channels. Although it says 'Texan Driver' on the cover page, it is not specific to any aircraft.
