CR 72 is mostly working on the Dell Venue 8 Pro (3845), 64-bit, including WiFi and sound. Here's what I see not working: Bluetooth Screen brightness Screen sleep Automatic booting No battery level. Firmware for the AR6004 WiFi controller in Dell Venue 8 Pro (5830 series) tablets. Is there any step by step procedures available for installing ubuntu in a DELL venue 8 pro tablet. The tablet preloaded with windows 10. I have disabled secure boot and created one bootable USB for ubuntu 16. But after modified the boot order with USB device, it still not booting from USB device and automatically booting in to the windows 10 Os.

Venue 8 Pro Linux

Linux

@caltlgin, there is no upstream for this package since it's mostly just a convenient script to manage some binary blobs (WiFi chip firmware from the official download location + board data file from the Windows driver update package).

What you need:
  • a copy of Windows 8.1 32bit ( x64 versions are not currentlysupported )
  • an empty USB key of at least 4gb
  • a USB-on-the-go adapter (from micro USB male to standard USB female); it can be bought on ebay for 1-2€
  • a USB hub with at least 3 ports
  • a USB keyboard and mouse
To make the bootable follow the steps below:
  1. Download or use an existing Windows 8.1 (x86-32 Bit) Install DVD ISO file.
  2. Download the Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool.
  3. Place the USB key in one of the computer USB ports.
  4. Run the DVD tool as administrator.
  5. Select the Windows 8.1 installer ISO and click on Next.
  6. From the next screen that is provided, select USB device.
  7. Chose the desired USB device from the drop down menu and click Begin copying.
  8. Wait for the tool to complete the USB build and close it.
  9. Create a folder on the local system. Example, C:Win8dot1-USB-Boot
  10. Copy ALL the files and folders on the USB key to the folder on the local system
  11. Reformat the USB key as FAT32. (The DVD tool defaults to NTFS. UEFI must boot from FAT32 for the USB device.)
  12. After the format is complete, copy all the files and folders from the local folder back to the USB device.
Then you are ready to format your device, so connect everything to the tablet and turn it on holding POWER and VOL+ buttons. Finally, you can choose the USB key as boot device touching the screen or using VOL+ and VOL- and start with the standard windows installation.

When you arrive to partitioning, you can freely remove all the partitions except the first one (EFI) and create a new one for the system. Keep in mind that doing so you won't be able to use the Dell recovery procedure and you may invalidate the warranty.
When the installation finishes you need to install the drivers downloading them from the Dell's website and copying them on the tablet using an usb key, since almost no device (including Wifi) will work at the first boot.
