I have a Generac Guardian 15 kw generator.
Had some bad luck with it. Let me give some background.

The EXL 8000 has an hour clock and listed 190 hours. I like the seperate oil filter which allows more time between changes. There is also a large tank that allows for a 10 to 12 hour run time. This generator ran for 2 days continuously without a hicup or brownouts during heavy load. This is now our main generator and the wheelhouse is the back up. I had to run it the other day. I have a transfer switch installed, that has the usual lockout. So that you can't switch in the generator power unless the main disconnect is switched to off first.
However I ran into a situation where, even though the main was thrown to 'off', the contacts inside must have still been on line power. Probably a sticking switch. So my generator was briefly exposed to line power.
I live on a farm where the utility line comes in to a pole in the middle of the place, where the wattmeter installed. And also where my transfer switch is located. So I had no way of checking when flipping the main disconnect, if the power was actually off.
My generator still seems to run ok however. It has no problem putting out 120 volts and is able to power things ok.
However now the idle control doesn't work. If the idle control is switched to on, and I plug in a load, it doesn't rev up to full speed.
If I run the idle control off, the generator goes to full speed and can power things apparently ok.

Here's the things I've checked:
1) Had a spare idle controller/governor board. Switched it out, but it didn't help.
Exl2) Checked idle transformers. Ohms are ok.
3) Checked Idle control switch.
